A remembrance, told plainly, becomes a record that outlasts us.

Story guidelines

Before you write, a few principles to keep this archive honest and dignified:

Every submission is reviewed by a human. We may write you back with a small note before publishing — please make sure your email is correct.

Free Memorial — here's how it works:
Fill in the name of the person you're honoring, their years of life, and write their story in the field below. Aim for 200–1,500 words — enough to capture who they were, what they meant, and what they left behind. You may upload one portrait photo. Once submitted, your memorial goes to our editorial team for review. After approval it will be published to the public archive, permanently. Want to include more photos, audio, video, or a custom memorial web address? Upgrade to Legacy ($49) →
This appears at the top of the published page. Up to about 220 characters.

Already wrote this in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Apple Pages? Save as a .docx file and upload it — we’ll extract the text into the story field below for you to review and edit before submitting. Maximum 1 MB.

Easier path · Optional

Compose in Word, Pages, or Google Docs

Most families write a memorial over hours or days, with help from a spouse or sibling. Compose where you write best, then upload the document below. We extract the text into the story field; you review and edit before submitting.

Word (.docx), PDF, or plain text (.txt) · up to 10 MB

How does this work?

Your document is uploaded and the text is read into the story field below. The original document is kept with your memorial as an asset (preserves the structure you wrote). You can edit the text in the story field before submitting — the submission flow continues exactly as before.

Documents are uploaded over HTTPS, scanned for size and type, and stored on the same servers that hold your published memorial. AI is not used to read your document — text extraction is purely mechanical (Operating Principle 6).

200–1,500 words is the sweet spot.
