The Seal
Seal what your family holds.
One Seal, ten dollars, seals a Record as your family gives it, with five GB included, and a public proof anyone can check. Seals are bought in Rolls of ten.
The Seal is for the family that has gathered its own story and wishes it kept. The house checks every file for safety, keeps each one exactly as given under its own fingerprint, encrypts it, and seals it. It does not research or verify what the family gives. If you would like the house to research and write the life, that is the Written Record.
What five GB holds
| What | About |
|---|---|
| Photographs, from a phone or scanned prints | 1,000 to 2,500 |
| Letters, certificates and deeds, scanned | 10,000 pages |
| Voice recordings | 80 hours |
| Phone films, 1080p | 45 minutes |
Typical sizes; your own files may be larger or smaller. Answers you speak at the door never count.
As your Record grows
The door shows the room your Record uses as each file arrives. Each further five GB is one Seal, and no Seal is taken without your yes. A sealed Record can grow: what your family finds later is sealed as a new version, pointing back to the one before; each new version is one more Seal.
How it is kept
- You give what you hold. Through the house's own private door: photographs, papers, recordings and films. You can remove anything until it is taken in.
- The house checks each file. Every file is checked for safety and kept exactly as given, under its own fingerprint.
- You say yes.Your yes
Nothing is sealed until you do. - It is sealed. One Seal from your Purse. An encrypted copy is stored on Filecoin, on machines that are not the house's.
- It is kept with a public proof. A fingerprint of every part, published where anyone can check it has not changed. Your family receives its own key.
The cost of keeping a sealed Record over the years is borne by the house.
